Through our work and the work of our partners we support and advocate energy policy that decreases dependence on fossil fuels on one side, thus increasing share of renewables in electricity production; primarily solar and wind energy. Thus we support direction of the energy policy which would use energy potential of the sun and wind while applying programs of energy efficiency in different sectors (transport, housing, urban planning, waste management, tourism, agriculture…).
We imply that Croatia has to take proportionally equal share in enforcing mitigation efforts in the upcoming new global agreement, but even more important prepare its policies with numerous adaptation measures in order to ensure to the future generations healthy, fair and sustainable future. We consider climate crisis inevitably linked with the multiple system crisis and we aim to bring social justice and solidarity into climate change discussion.
On that track, we consider involvement of the private sector as most crucial in the process of building up conditions for more clean industry which will not cause over consumption and will be environmentally friendly. In this framework, we promote the Green New Deal concept as the effort to make a new social contract which would provide conditions for development of the zero growth economy, preservation of natural resources and ensured efficient use of energy, simultaneously providing new jobs in the green industry.
Specific accent and added value in our work we realise through internationalisation of domestic issues in the sphere of energy policy and environmental protection; through intense cooperation with international environmental organisations, institutes and green political parties; with European parliament and parliaments in the EU member states.
On the other hand, a big attention is paid to the very local grass root level and to the efforts of local communities and cities to apply sustainable praxis in the energy and climate policy. Particularly important we consider urban development and spatial policy development, as space is one of the most important resources Croatia has, which is quite often exposed to environmentally hostile practices linked to corruption affairs and the land abuse.
In our work we support and practice participation, dialogue and communication between different sectors, and the exchange of views from different disciplines. Special attention is paid to the activities that contribute to the visibility of the green discourse in public, through public awareness activities that sensibilize public for specific cases of environmental protection, energy and climate policy.
In our work we use different forms; conferences, expert round tables, public discussions, study visits, publishing studies and discussion papers.
