WHAT'S CLIMATE GOT TO DO WITH IT?
Ska Keller (Greens, European Parliament), Vedran Horvat (Heinrich Böll Stiftung Hrvatska) and Žarko Puhovski (Filozofski fakultet, Zagreb)
May 5, 2010
Around 20 experts and activists from climate policy field and immigration and asylum policy took part in the HBS expert talk on climate migration which was held on 23rd of April 2010 in Zagreb in premises of Goethe Institute Croatia. Lack of coherence and coordination between these two policy settings and lack of recognition of climate migrants as the new category in the international legal framework were, in adittion to discussion on security and solidarity, two most important departure points of the discussion.

Speakers were:
Žarko Puhovski (Faculty of Letters)
Gordan Bosanac (Center for Peace Studies)
Toni Vidan (Green Action/Friends of the Earth Croatia)
Ska Keller (Greens, European Parliament).
Margit Ammer (Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights, Vienna)
Tamer Afifi (United Nations University, Institute for Environment and Human Security, Bonn)

The main objective of this expert talk was to inform interested public in Croatia about this new emerging phenomenon and increase the capacity of domestic actors in the mentioned fields to be more actively involved in the global discussion on climate migration. It was first step toward agenda setting process which will be action-oriented and will aim to deliver and frame proposals to the global discussion about climate migration.

One of the results of the discussion is thematic paper prepared by Margit Ammer from Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights from Vienna. More here...
